Paul, Jesus and miracles

1 Corinthians 1
For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Paul claims that when he preaches , he preaches Christ crucified.

He does not respond to Jewish demands that Christianity be accompanied by miraculous signs.

So did Paul just bite his tongue when he was taunted to explain what sort of miracles proved that this Jesus really was the Christ?

If there had been a resurrection, how could Paul have reacted to Jewish demands for miraculous signs by claiming he was not in the business of preaching about them, he was in the business of preaching the crucifixion?

How to be blessed by the LORD

Exodus 32
Then he said to them, "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'Each man strap a sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from one end to the other, each killing his brother and friend and neighbor.' " The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people died. Then Moses said, "You have been set apart to the LORD today, for you were against your own sons and brothers, and he has blessed you this day."

If the Levites butcher 3000 of their fellow chosen people in one day, the LORD blesses them.

God and unbelievers

How does God deal with non-believers?

2 Kings 17:25
When they first lived there, they did not worship the LORD; so he sent lions among them and they killed some of the people.

The Bible alleges this god sends lions to kill unbelievers. Why am I somehow not very scared of this god and his lions, which are no more than paper tigers?

God is something of which nothing greater can be thought

It is clear from the Christian definition of god that our conceptions of this being are how we judge how great a being is. There can be no arguments that our conceptions of greatness are somehow invalid or cannot be used when discussing how great any given being is.

Can we conceive of a being so great that it would not allow its worshippers to be tortured, persecuted and killed for their faith and worship of this being?

I can conceive of a being so great that it would not pass by on the other side while its worshippers are being killed for their faith.

Therefore the Christian god is not a being so great that we can conceive of none greater.

Therefore there is no god.

Government cover-up

As we all know, the government in 1st century Palestine were perfectly well aware that Jesus had performed miracles.

They knew perfectly well that Jesus had been resurrected.

So they had a cover-up, silencing and threatening people who spoke the truth.

Lots of governments throughout history have done this.

The government covered up the Roswell alien landings.

The government covered up the shooting of JFK by a second gunman.

The government covered up the fake moon landings.

Not much has changed in 2000 years , has it?
